Some one at Halford’s agency obviously just downloaded instagram. That’s what everyone likes now, nostalgia. Let’s do a bit of that, throw in a retro camera and some filters and wowza, we’ve got ourselves a diet John Lewis advert.

I’m not saying it is terrible, it is all very lovely. For me though it is trying just too hard to be lovely , to tick all the boxes and make families yelp with glee. Plus I’m not sure what it says about the brand other than they can pick a good track and make an arty short film.

I’m sure it’ll do alright, I don’t doubt it. It isn’t offensive or making people think too much but maybe that’s the issue. Read below for the brand’s official PR guff.

This summer we want to remind families how great trips and holidays together can be. Our advert set to the 70s anthem ‘Into the Valley’ by The Skids brings to life those nostalgic, happy memories from trips and holidays of our childhood to show that the best trips can last a lifetime.

Our story follows 4 children on a summer family trip. A boy and girl from the 1970s playing with a present day brother and sister. In a time when it’s easy for children to get stuck indoors on computer games, we wanted to show how easy it is to pack up, get out and enjoy the freedom of the great outdoors, whether it be a week away camping or a cycling day trip.

Share your memories with us on Facebook for a chance to win some great prizes!
